Age 12. Expect more action and violence in Tolkien's books and the adaptations. Read: The Fellowship of the Ring.
Can a 12 year old read LOTR : If you are an avid reader yourself, and you are desperate to infect your children with that same love of reading, tolkien's works are an excellent tool. Anytime between the age of nine and thirteen is a great time to begin the Middle Earth saga.
I think the average age for reading aloud is 6+ and the average age for reading to yourself is 11+. It contains a few very sad deaths and my daughter nearly cried when one of the most important characters died. As well, it contains evil elves, goblins and dangerous wolves.
Throne of Glass: Throne of Glass, Book 1
By the fourth it's very explicit with the bedtime scenes, so unless the reader is going to only read one book a year, I'd reccommend interpreting this book as New-Adult rather than Teen or YA.
Should a 14 year old read Game of Thrones
A good read, but be cautious
While it does contain violence, sex, etc, the descriptions are not nearly as graphic as in the show and usually very brief. The sex scenes are not worded as they usually are in other books and the language is not anything a teen would hear at school. It's a great read-aloud for children as young as six or seven, but I wouldn't recommend it for kids younger than 11 or 12 to read by themselves. The Hobbit is a wonderful story because it has almost the perfect dose of every story element. The overall plot is straightforward but filled with many sub-adventures.I think the average age for reading aloud is 6+ and the average age for reading to yourself is 11+. Beautiful, Sweeping, Epic, and Just A Bit Scary
It's a film I can't wait to share with my children but they'll have to wait for middle-school as it's just spooky enough to keep it out of the reach of the 10 and under crowd. The violence is sometimes bloody and there are swords and arrows flying every which way.
Can a 13 year old read Shatter Me : but if you want a age rating id say a mature 12 year old could handle it but 14+ sound fine.
Is Game of Thrones 16+ : I should be fine, right No. The violence itself is nothing too far out of the ordinary, but there is an overwhelming amount of nudity/incest/freedom with prostitutes in this show that just isn't meant for those under 18.

The violence is sometimes bloody and there are swords and arrows flying every which way. In addition, both heroes and villains meet violent onscreen deaths. The overall tone is often moody and foreboding, in ways that would be enough to scare lots of kids.Madi ~☆TheBookNerdDiaries☆~ There are some very vague sex scenes that are often lost in random metaphors and mentions of wanting to commit suicide/self-harm in the first book, not sure about the others. I'd say if you are a parent, read this before your child and judge it.
Should a 12 year old read : At this age, your preteen should be reading history and science books, exploring the world of research on the web — and using these sources for school assignments. She should feel confident using dictionaries, glossaries, and reading diagrams and charts.
